The shock death of Princess Diana was followed by an unprecedented outpouring of grief. People placed flowers. The biggest collection was outside her home, Kensington Palace. It was an overwhelming, awesum sight.

All around the country flags flew at half mast - everywhere - on buildings that never normally flew flags...

300,000 queued outside St. Jame's Palace to write their own messages in the book. Around trees and all available railings tributes were placed

The country seemed to come to a standstill. People slept outside Westminster Abbey, where the funeral was to be held. Most shops closed. Then a strange kind of unity manifested.
