positioned above the River Fowey in 182 ha of woods and parkland,
this 17c house is a blend of Victorian splendour with some surviving
elements of the original house prior to the disastrous fire of 1881. There are 49 rooms open for viewing. Formal and shrub gardens outside.

Set on the motte of a Norman castle and commanding the
town and surrounding countryside this medieval castle controlled the
main route into Cornwall. The keep and tower survive.

THE LOST
GARDENS OF HELIGAN

Description:
The scene of the largest garden restoration project in
Europe. Lost for years under bramble, laurel and timber this was truly a sleeping beauty. In the northern gardens are two and a half
miles of foot paths, an Elizabethan mount, rockeries, summer houses, a crystal grotto, an Italian garden and a superb collection of walled
gardens. To the south lie the Lost Valley and The Jungle overflowing
with with palms, bamboos, gunnera and numerous exotic trees and
shrubs.
Location
From St. Austell take the Mevagissey road B3273 and follow
brown signs. Free car park.
