BERNEY ARMS WINDMILL

Description
A marsh mill, one of the best and largest remaining in
Norfolk, with seven floors, making it a landmark for miles around.
Built to grind a constituent of cement, it was in use until 1951,
ending its days pumping water to drain surrounding marshes.

Description
A 3.5m long sand and shingle spit, summer home for over eleven
species of seabird, including Common and Sandwich Tern, Oystercatcher
and Ringed Plover; winter visitors include large flocks of Brent
Geese, Common Seals breed off the point of the spit. Information
Centre at Morston Quay. Adjoining properties at Morston and Stiffkey
comprise 405ha of saltmarsh and intertidal mudflats. In July the
marshes are coloured purple with sea lavender.

Description
Blickling dates from the early 17th century. Its collections
include fine furniture, pictures and tapestries, with a Jacobean
plaster ceiling in the 40-metre-long long gallery. The gardens are
renowened for massive yew hedges and herbaceous borders and contain a
late 18th-century orangery; the parkland has a lake and good walks.
