Description:
17c house built by 1st Lord Craven and 'consecrated' to
Elizabeth, Queen of Bohemia. The great staircase is very impressive
and the house contains important portraits of the Winter Queen's
family. There are fine views from the roof. Also a box parterre,
lawns avenues and woodland walks

On west side of B4000, 2.5 mile south of Ashbury and 3.5
miles north of Lambourn. Come off M4 junc 14 or 15. Rail Newbury. Bus

BLENHEIM PALACE

Description:
The cumulative labour's of Vanburgh and Capability Brown,
have succeeded at Blenheim in setting an Italian palace in an English
park without apparent incongruity - Sir Winston Churchill. Churchill
was born in the palace and it was built for his ancestor John
Churchill, the 1st Duke of Marlborough, in recognition for his great
military victory at the Battle of Blenheim. It is a grand house in
every sense, set in 2,100 acres of magnificent parkland.

A late 18c house with pleasure gardens administered by
Lord Farringdon. The house has important art collections, including
works by Reynolds, Gainsborough and Rembrandt, furniture and
porcelain. The gardens include delightful water gardens laid out by
