Magdalene Street, Glastonbury BA6 9EL Tel. 01458 834906
This abbey has so much history and so many legends it is difficult to know where to begin. It was said to have been founded by Joseph of Arimathea and was the first church in Britain (although the legends go further back than that) and that Joseph stuck his staff into the ground and a Holy Thorn (still on view) flowered there. That King Arthur is buried there. That Saint Patrick is buried there...
Glastonbury is on the A361 in Somerset.
daily 9.30am-6pm or dusk (whichever earliest)
Most of the ground is level although there are some steps in the Lady Chapel (which can still be viewed from above)
