Shipley
Windmill

Description
Shipley Windmill is the largest and the youngest windmill
in Sussex. It stands over 60ft high, and still mills wheat for flour
on open days, wind permitting. It was owned for 50 years by the
writer, poet and historian, Hilaire Belloc. It is now operated by a
group of volunteers.
Location
Shipley Windmill lies about 8 miles SW of Horsham in West
Sussex. It is South of the A272 and W of the A23. From Horsham take
the Worthing road A23 to the Bucks Barn traffic lights. Turn R onto
the A272, the after 1 mile L towards Shipley, first R and follow road
through village. The mill is visible on the L.
Opening Times
The mill is open on the 1st and 3rd Sunday in each month,
from Easter to the end of October, plus Bank Holidays and certain
other Sundays in May. Opening hours are from 2 - 5 pm. Parties at
other times by appointment (call Denis Sanderson 01403 783203).

Description:
This is Kew in the country with hearty walks and a good
collection of trees, shrubs and plants. It is also home of the big
millennium seed bank.
Location:
(Difficult without car) Take junc 10 off M23 onto A264,
then about 2 miles left onto B2028 Rail: East Grinstead 6.5 miles
