BOND STREET
Named after the speculator Sir Thomas Bond, the street was built in two stages but never particularly noted for it architectural merit. It was noted though for its highly luxurious shops and galleries - some of the most distinguished in the world - and still is today. Above its shops were distinguished lodgers. William Pitt the Elder, Admiral Nelson, Edward Gibbon and many others. It was the founding home of Sotherbys, Mappin and Webb, Chappel and Co and many others
