Cheyne Walk
South of the Kings Road, on the river, lies Cheyne Walk. The Cheyne Family were lords of the manor from 1660 -1712 and their walk extends from the Albert Bridge to Cremorne Road. Immortalized by Whistler it is traditionally a writers and artists row. The long list of celebrated residents include George Elliot, William Dyce, Daniel Maclise, Dante Gabriel Rossetti, Lionel Davidson, Hilaire Belloc, Mick Jagger, Henry James, Whistler, Turner and many others. They were, by and large, a quirky lot - Rossetti actually kept a zoo! For the aspiring artist, a few streets north on Manresa Road, is the very trendy Chelsea School of art - picture below
