Battle Battle is dubbed 'Birthplace of England' because here in 1066 William the Conqueror defeated Harold and went on to transform England from numerous little kingdoms to one united kingdom. It is a pretty town, steeped in the history of the event and in the abbey (the spot where Harold fell) frequent enactments of the famous battle occur. |
