CIRENCESTER From the 1c and for several centuries after this was the second most important town on these islands and its museum is a good place to start to discover this historic town. With the Roman withdrawal the town declined sharply, but prospered again in the middle ages. It had a massive abbey which was dissolved by Henry V111 which has now totally disappeared.
