Dorchester

Like many Dorset town, of which this is the capital, the main street rises u a steep hill. The town is rich in history. Following an earlier Iron Age settlement the Romans built a town here in AD 43. In the civil war it came out on the parliamentary side. It is notorious for Judge Jeffries who after the bloody assizes of 1685 order the hanging of 74 men. The town is immortalised by Thomas Hardy.
